Welcome to our new website!
This new website was made possible through a 2021 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Public Library Grant secured by the Southeast Kansas Library System (SEKLS), who was instrumental in the coordination of this redesign project and will lead ongoing support for the website maintenance and updates. Special thanks to Robin Hastings and the Northeast Kansas Library System (NEKLS) for website hosting setup, transition, and technical support. Design and web development services were provided by SYZYGY 1 Media.
The Kansas State Library has used Institute of Museum and Library Services ARPA funding to award project grants to public libraries in Kansas to support digital inclusion efforts to enable libraries to reach residents such as through internet hotspots, accessible Wi-Fi, and digital content and related resources, particularly in support of education, health, and workforce development needs; Provide rapid emergency relief to libraries, allowing them to safely respond to the pandemic and implement public health protocols; And support library services that meet the needs of their communities.

2020 Census Infogram
The U.S. Census Bureau’s Statistics in Schools (SIS) program helps students in classrooms across the country answer questions about the nation’s population by providing colorful maps filled with census-based facts about the United States and its territories. There are maps aimed at elementary, middle and high school grade levels
On June 1, the San Antonio/Bexar County CCC purchased advertising space on the back of Family Dollar and Dollar Tree stores’ receipts to promote the 2020 Census targeting hard-to-count communities in the area. The CCC invested $25,000 for the 12- week campaign in every of store throughout Bexar County.
Response Rate Fun Facts (June 8)
• Utah had the second highest cumulative Internet self-response rate at 59.4 percent, behind Minnesota and ahead of Washington
• Utah had the second highest cumulative total self-response rate at 64.3 percent, behind Washington and ahead of Oregon
• Gove County, KS had the highest daily total self-response rate at 1.9 percent
• Los Alamos County, NM had the highest cumulative Internet self-response rate at 74.6 percent
• Los Alamos County, NM was the top West County with 79.8 percent

Census Bureau to Resume 2020
Census Field Operations in Additional Locations
On June 9, the U.S. Census Bureau, in coordination with federal, state and local health officials, announced the restart of 2020 Census field operations in additional area census offices (ACOs) across the nation. With these additions, field activities have restarted at all 248 ACOs stateside, all ACOs in Puerto Rico and the Island Areas, and 100 percent of the nation’s update leave workload will have resumed. As of June 8, 83.5 percent of update leave was completed.
Census Bureau officials coordinated closely with the Navajo Nation and determined that it is safe to resume operations in the Window Rock, AZ ACO on June 11.

The 2020 Pandemic Art in the Yard Challenge
With the postponement of the Denim 2020 art show due to COVID-19, the Madison Public Library would like to invite Madison residents to take part in a new project.
Art in the Yard.
Challenge yourself to create a masterpiece to be displayed in your front yard. Anyone who lives in the USD 386 school district is eligible to participate although all art must be displayed within the Madison city limits.
If you are interested in taking the challenge, call the library at 620-437-2634 and leave a message with your name, phone number and address or email madisonks.library@gmail.com with your name, phone number, and address, and you will be given a number to display with your art.
You have until July 16th to register and put your work on display. From July 17-21 District 386 residents are invited to drive around town, choose their favorite art piece and vote online. A link to SurveyMonkey will be provided on the library website and Facebook page and in the Madison News and on the Madison News Facebook.
The top three winners will be announced on the library Facebook page and website and in the Madison News and Madison News Facebook . Please join us and share in this opportunity to come together-apart and create great art.

Virtual borrowing with Hoopla!
Hoopla allows you to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, eBooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – and even your TV! With no waiting, titles can be streamed immediately, or downloaded to phones or tablets for offline enjoyment later. Patrons can borrow up to 5 titles each month.
Hoopla has hundreds of thousands of titles to choose from, with more being added daily. All you need is your Madison Public Library card, an email account, and an internet connection!
- Most movies and TV episodes are available for 3 days.
- Most music albums are available for 7 days.
- Most eBooks, audiobooks, and comics are available for 21 days.
Getting Started:
- Go to www.hoopladigital.com (or download the Hoopla app) and click “Get Started Today.”
- Enter your email address, create a password, and click “Next.”
- Choose Madison Public Library (KS) as your library.
- Enter your library card number and click “Sign Me Up.”
Borrowing Titles:
- You can browse the available titles by type and genre, or you can search for a specific title.
- Once you find a title you would like to check out, click on the title and then click “Borrow.” There are no holds or waiting!
- Don’t want to borrow it yet? Click on the heart icon to save to your favorites!
- Hoopla will keep track of when titles are due and return it for you. No late fees!
